    Hard drive missing?

    Hi,

I was writing an essay and a blue screen with an error randomly poped up. I waited a couple of minutes and nothing happened so I turned it off and when I turned it back on after the hp logo a black page saying it couldn't boot becuase the hard drive is missing or doesn't have windows installed.

    Please help.

I didn’t find the right soltion from the Internet.

    Hard drive missing

So "data transfer rate" doesnt equal "how fast can my drive find a file". That is related to hard drive speed, and for things like movies which are large files which are probably not stored contiguously you want a faster drive.

i once had a hard drive fail, i remounted the actual hard drive in a new external housing and she fired up once again. it may just be the electronics, not the magnetic data storage itself

The letter of your OS drive is very difficult to change without breaking everything. Its best to reformat and reinstall with your storage drive disconnected, and then add the drive back once everythings set up.

The safest way to get around this is to reinstall Windows. Before you do that, you should unplug any other hard drives, card readers and external drives - as mcc suggested.

I just put a big ass drive into an older computer I had laying around. All computers on the network back up to it and, in turn, it serves files to said computers. Dont know if thats an option for you, though.
